Win a Copy of The Case of the Missing Moon Rocks

UPDATE: Err won and should be contacted shortly.

New nonfiction from The Atavist:
Joseph Gutheinz is on a mission to save the moon. Decades ago, astronauts brought back 850 pounds of rocks from their lunar journeys; the U.S. gave some away as “goodwill” gifts to the world’s nations. Over time, many of them disappeared, stolen or lost in the aftermath of political turmoil, and offered for millions on the black market. Gutheinz, first as a NASA investigator and then the leader of a ragtag group of students, has dedicated his life to getting them back. Author Joe Kloc tells a wild story of geopolitics, crime, science, and one man’s obsession to keep the moon out of the wrong hands.
The Case of the Missing Moon Rocks is available from The Atavist for Kindle, iPad/iPhone, Nook, and iBooks.

I have one digital copy to give away. For a chance to win, simply comment on this post and include your email so I can contact you if you win. One comment per person, and this contest is open worldwide. I'll pick a winner next week.

Link roundup

1. How China bought its first aircraft carrier. (Hint, they lied about it.)

2. MIT students receive their acceptance letters in cardboard tubes and are encouraged to modify them. One student sent hers into space. (Have you noticed that all of the interesting stories about space have nothing to do with NASA?)

3. Mysterious new Google device being tested. Via.

'Figs In Spaaaaaaace!

Like the Muppets reference?

Okay - so this was something so amazing, that it has inspired me to create a second blog post today.

Two teenaged kids from my neck of the woods - well, Toronto area at least - have managed to send a LEGO minifigure to space!

Now, this isn't the first LEGO minifigure to be sent to space - as NASA had done this last year.  But to have such an amazing feat done by amateurs (and I mean that in the kindest, most professional way) is amazing!

You can find the source for  the video from the Toronto Star to see more, including actual footage from Near Space!

Man - now I REALLY feel like a LEGO slacker!

What the Space Station Astronauts See

Current Position of the ISSThe opportunity for space tourism is probably still a little way off for most of us. Whilst we all wait for Richard Branson to make space travel a lot more affordable we will have to make do with this Google Map showing the current location of the International Space Station on Google Maps. The map shows the current view from the ISS looking down at the Earth. So you can

Roland MT32 emulation on Dosbox

If you don't know what the Roland MT32 is, allow me to explain! It is one of the best Synthesizers from the DOS era. Producing way better music than any of its competitors (Adlib from SoundBlaster, or the all mighty pc speaker). Don't believe me? Watch this video and see for yourself:

and this one:

Now, those who, like me, can't find one or probably couldn't afford one, there is still hope, for I found a Dosbox version with Roland MT32 emulation already done for you! Just run and there ya go!
